Swap(MT4/5)
Swap is a form of interest that is applied to any positions that are held overnight. It can be either positive or negative, depending on what you are trading and the side of your position.
Our Swaps are based on the interest rates as set by LIBOR
Right click in the Market Watch window on the symbol you wish to know the rates for, and select Specifications. You will then see the long and short swap rates if you scroll down. Note, the rates for Forex are displayed in points.
Positions in Forex and Metals that are held open over Wednesday night will incur a triple (3x) swap charge. This is to account for the settlement of trades over the weekend, where no swap rates are charged since the market is closed. Similarly, positions in Indices, Energies and Cryptos that are held open over Friday night will incur a triple (3x) swap charge. Note that swaps are not applied on WTI but a rollover.
Swap is charged at 00:00 (Server time) - 5:00 PM New York time - for any trades that are still open from the previous day.
The Swap for Forex , Natural Gas and Metals is calculated in Points, with the calculation formula for Swap in Points be Lots x Contract Size x Swap Long (or Swap Short) x Point Size and the point size be the smallest possible price change on the left side of a decimal point. Example for 1 lot Long Position of EURUSD - ((1*100.000) * -4.95 * 0.00001) = -4.95 USD per day.
The Swap for Commodities (Oils) and Indices is calculated in Money (Currency), with the calculation formula for Swap in Money be Lots x Swap Long (or Swap Short). Example for 1 lot Long Position of XBRUSD - 1* -2.1= -2.1 USD per day.
The Swap for Cryptocurrencies and Equities is calculated in, Percentage Terms with the calculation formula for Swap in Percentage be [ (Lots x Swap Long (or Swap Short) x Closing Price) / 100] /360. Example for 1Lot Long Position on Apple with the closing BID of APPLE at 164,96 USD - [ (1 x 5 x 164,96) / 100] / 360 = (824,80/100) / 360 = 8,25 / 360 = 0,02 USD per day.
Lets take UK stocks as an example.
UK stocks have a commission per side of 0.10% with a minimum of 10 GBP charge per side.
48.51 is the market price for RIO
If you open 10 lots of RIO then you have 10*48.51*0.1%= 0.4851 GBP as commission per side, which is less than the 10 GBP minimum so you will be charged the minimum.
Now if you trade 100 lots, then again 100*48.51*0.1%= 4.851GBP, less than 10 GBP so still the minimum charge.
If you trade 500 lots then 500*48.51*0.1%= 24.255 GBP, which is higher than the minimum of 10 GBP, so this is what you will be charged per side.
If the trading account is in a different currency, such as USD, there will be a conversion between GBP and USD.
Accounts are credited or charged in case at the time of expiration they hold their position during the roll over to the new contract. As the old and the new contract have different values, an adjustment is made in the form of swaps and appear in the swaps section of the platforms. This should not be considered as swap, but as a price adjustment. The respective adjustment will be made to both sides, buy, and sell and will be positive and negative, the exact values are shown on symbol specification a day before the expiration. The net result for the client would be to have the same net Profit / Loss as before the rollover but adjusted to the new contracts price. The Roll Over for Futures is calculated in Money (Currency) in the form of Swaps, with the calculation formula for Swaps in Money be Lots x Swap Long (or Swap Short). On the platforms, the Roll Over (Swap) is automatically converted into the balance currency. The operation is conducted at midnight server time (00:00 server time /5pm NY time) and will only be charged/gained if you have an open trade at this time when the Future expires. Example : For 1 Lot Long Position on Coffee - 1 x 1 x 5 = 5 USD will be reduced from your account, in the form of Swaps, and this amount will be reflected inversely into your position Profit / Loss.
For all US Stocks (for all account types), an additional charge of 10 USD commission will be applied to your account upon opening the trade and an additional 10 USD commission upon closing the trade or a 3cents commission per Share upon opening the trade and 3cents USD commission per Share upon closing the trade; between the former and the latter the highest commission For all UK and European Stocks (for all account types), an additional charge of 10 GBP (or 10 EUR) commission will be applied to your account upon opening the trade and an additional 10 GBP (Or 10 EUR) commission will be applied to the account upon closing the trade or a commission of Lots x 0,10% x Price will be applied to the account upon opening the trade and a commission of Lots x 0,10% x Price will be applied to the account upon closing the trade, between the former and the latter the highest commission. For all Hong Kong Stocks (for all account types), an additional charge of 10 USD commission will be applied to your account upon opening the trade and an additional 10 USD commission will be applied to the account upon closing the trade or a commission of Lots x 0,20% x Price will be applied to the account upon opening the trade and a commission of Lots x 0,20% x Price will be applied to the account upon closing the trade, between the former and the latter the highest commission.
